Thanks but no thanks!

Today I am proud of the women who refuse to be defined by the abuse they have faced. They continuously encourage those whose experiences have silenced them. I am proud of those who speak up on behalf of the victims of femicide, those who dress up regardless of societal expectations, those who have shown support and refuse to keep quiet about it, and lastly I am proud of those who are still struggling with fear, trauma and scars to break through their shells and speak up! They are the beacons of strength and courage.

Again, to all men who support the cause kudos! To the men who call out their fellows for being the perpetrators of violence, to the men who do not take sides in such matters, and to men who see the light amidst this dawning reality. Julius Malema, a presidential candidate for South Africa's 2024 upcoming elections says there is no need to protect women rather, he insists on the need to stop the violence against them.

On second thought, thanks but no thanks! It is only human decency to treat others with respect. It is an obligation. Advocating for basic human rights and safety is not extraordinary and should be the standard. Sorry to burst your bubble.
