What next? after all is said and done?
We ought to walk the talk against femicide. We should not have a narrow mindset when looking at this issue. We should acknowledge that there is always two sides of a coin. This means that men are also victims as they get targeted through gender-based violence, therefore, no form of violence should be condoned. Everyone in society should be held accountable for perpetrating any form of violence be it physical or emotional since femicide arises from these root causes.
Gender equality and equity are advocated for through Article 59 of the Kenyan Constitution showing that this is not an "I" issue as it cuts across the society irrespective of age, religion, and social status.
In Chapter 4 of the Bill of Rights, the most fundamental aspect is that every person has a Right to Life which begins at conception. It also protects human rights such as Privacy, Dignity, Equality and Non-discrimination, Freedom of Expression, Assembly and Association, and Socio-economic Rights.
Saying the names of victims out loud is a reminder that their cries have not been forgotten. She is someone's daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend.
How many more deaths should we witness to say enough is enough? Let's not forget until the femicide issue is put to rest!!!
